Scope of Symposium

The main theme of the symposium will be gGlobal Operations and Strategy in the 2010sh. The twenty-first century is the era of market value creation. Strategic management has changed completely as companies pursue new business, technology, production, purchasing and procurement, and sales. At the same time, research on operations and strategy is now considered the source of this new world of market value creation and the key to whether companies rise or fall. Today, the concept of worldwide quality competition has made the launch and achievement of global production a strategic issue in corporate management. Manufacturing has been utterly transformed by environmental challenges, questions surrounding our natural resources, and technological innovations like digital engineering. Given these changes, research on the operations and strategies that will characterize the next generation is likely to form the core of strategic management. It is hoped that this symposium will deepen research activities in a variety of operations-related fields as a way of making a strategic contribution to global manufacturing. These may include academic research into core technologies related to engineering, production or sales; decision-making research that considers operations from a global perspective; or supply chain management, service sciences, and risk management.
